Berber weaver

Featured Photograph

This woman, living in Khemisset, weaves a rug on her vertical loom. Since she sits behind the loom, she does not see the patterns she creates. Rather she weaves them from memory, having learned how to weave at an early age. The use of bright yellow is a new innovation. Berber women, such as this one, weave blankets and carpets for their households and also create textiles for the market, allowing them to make extra money and help support their families.
