Gnawa musicians

Featured Photograph

These Gnawa men from southeastern Morocco are descendents of enslaved peoples. The style of music they play has its origins in western Africa. The men in this photo are playing drums during a healing ceremony. Gnawa are greatly respected and are believed to have great baraka, meaning "blessings from God." Gnawa in southeastern Morocco have an annual festival that hundreds of people visit in hopes of being healed. Please contact me for more information about their festival in Khamlia.
