Fossils from the Sahara

Featured Photograph

More than 360 million years ago the Sahara was a sea. Many of the marine animals that once inhabited the Sahara became fossilized after death. They are now found within the outcrops of calcareous rocks that dot the landscape of southern Morocco. This young man lives in the desert. He supports himself and his family through the hard work he does, painstakingly working for hours to preserve a single fossil by carefully removing its surrounding rock.
