Men from the Sahara
This photograph was taken in Goulmime, a small city found in southwestern Morocco. Goulmime is famous for its indigo colored clothing. These men are wearing large garments called gandora. Their gandora is elaborately embroidered and differs from the type of men's garments found in northern Morocco. The large flowing gandora has more in common with the men's garments in West Africa, demonstrating that this area of Morocco is on the crossroads between North and West Africa. Men in this region typically wear turbans, to protect them from the frequent sandstorms and intense heat.
